In this post, I will talk about 5 important onpage seo factors that have helped me improve my websites readability and relevance.
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. SEO essentially refers to a set of techniques that allow your website to stand out among a teeming mass of websites.
The bed rock of any SEO is obviously engaging content; something that the audience can relate to. But there are thousands of good websites with engaging content. It is only good SEO practices that will help your good website become a great website.
Below I have discussed 5 important but often overlooked onpage seo factors that will help your website stand out.
1. Identify keyword
Proper keyword identification is one of the most important factors as it will help to tell you, your audience and search engines, what your content is all about.
For example, for my current article the keyword is onpage seo factors.
2. Title should have keyword
The title is the first thing your users would see. Having the keyword within the title is a definite must if you want to engage your audience.
For example, if I want to write about “Onpage SEO Factors” but my title is “How to get more viewers for your blog” it will not helpful or relevant.
“How to get more visitors for your blog” is generic and includes On Page as well as Off page SEO factors.
The reader who did a google search and landed on your page knows exactly what he wants and it is likely that he will hang around longer if you give him what he desires.
3. URL Permalink should have keyword
An ugly URL like mkerj.com/p=777 tells one nothing. It is extremely unhelpful.
But something like http://mkerj.com/atal-pension-yojana-scheme-review/ tells the audience that this article is a review of Atal Pension Yojana Scheme. They start taking you more seriously as they know that you mean business.
It is because the reader wanted a review of Atal Pension Yojana Scheme that he landed on your page . And he expects nothing else but a review.
For my current article therefore, my permalink slug is /onpage-seo-factors/
4. Place Keyword at the beginning of your permalink
People have poor attention spans. In this age of twitter, every microsecond counts.
For example looking at the URL /looks-like-eye-weird-amazing-things.html the user knows exactly what to expect, and below is how he probably would think when he sees the permalink.
- Things that look like an eye? Sounds interesting.
- Weird things. I love weird.
- Amazing Things. I dig amazing.
But when one uses /weird-amazing-looks-like-eye, his initial visualization set is huge.
- There are plenty of things which are weird.
- There are plenty of things which are amazing.
- Of those numerous things which are weird as well as amazing why should I even give two hoots about things which look like an eye?
5. Place keyword within first 200 words of your article
Now that you have nailed your header and permalink, the user needs to be convinced that you are giving them the goods.
Convince the reader by placing the keyword at the beginning of the article. Don’t write a long introduction and wait till than 700th word to introduce the keyword.
For example I have mentioned that I would talk about onpage seo factors within first 100 words. This leaves no doubt in the readers mind on what I want to talk about.
That’s it. Hope you enjoyed reading this article and are able to apply these points to your website. Do let me know how they impact your website’s readability and relevance.
