Is organic green tea good for weight loss?

This is one of the most commonly asked questions on the  benefits of organic green tea.

As a big fan of green tea and all things organic, I  decided to delve into the claim that organic green tea is good for weight loss.

I researched the topic by studying a large number of articles, papers, blogs  and journals.

 By the time I finished writing, the post size had  exceeded my normal post size limit, and so I decided to present the information in a 2-3 part series to make it easily digestible.
The Four Ways in which organic green tea helps in weight  loss are:
  1. Green Tea helps to decrease skin fat (triglyceride)
  2. Green Tea helps in controlling visceral fat (belly fat)
  3. Green Tea aids in stimulating metabolism (EGCG and  caffeine)
  4. Green Tea along with exercise helps in weight loss
 In this post we will learn about triglycerides and how  green tea helps in combating skin fat.

#1 Triglycerides and Green Tea

 What are triglycerides?

Triglycerides are a type of fat found in our blood and provide  energy to support various functions of
the body. Triglycerides play an  important role in metabolism as energy sources and transporters of dietary fat.  They are a major component of human skin oils.

When sugar and fat enter our body, they combine to form  triglyceride in the small intestines and the liver, and get transported to  other parts of the body through the bloodstream. However, excess triglyceride
transforms into fat and may result in obesity.

Reasons for high triglycerides

  • Consuming more calories than one can burn
  • Drinking a lot of alcohol
  • Kidney disease
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Medicines like beta-blockers, estrogen, tamoxifen, birth  control pills
  • Some specific steroids

How does green tea help control triglycerides?

Green tea contains polyphenols, which activates an enzyme
that dissolves excess triglyceride. Thus drinking green tea regularly will help  in weight loss by controlling skin fats.
As an aside, pomegranate, which contain polyphenols, has
been an important source of remedies for many ailments in traditional Indian  medicine Ayurveda.
