5 Steps to Keep Yourself Motivated

Successful people are a fountain of motivation.

They are self-motivated. Determination is their second nature.

Whatever be the situation, they persevere and stick to their agenda.

If we want to be successful, we must always be motivated. Becoming depressed and frustrated is simply not an option. But how can we do that?

We have to do that in stages.

In the Indian tradition of Yoga and Vedanta, before a spiritual seeker can start his journey, he has to first become eligible. And for that, the text describes a numbers of small steps.

That is how we have to start. We start small, but end up with massive gains and remain ever-motivated.

    1. Wake up early every day and at the same time. Like clockwork and no excuses allowed for getting up late. I get up at 5:30 AM everyday irrespective of when I go to sleep or whether it is a Sunday or a Holiday. This is the biggest step.

    1. Have a fixed time for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The pre-requisite is that you must have breakfast, lucnh and dinner everyday whatever be the situation. My timings are 8 AM, 12 noon, 5 PM and 9 PM.
If you have a meeting or appointment, reschedule or cancel it if possible. Daily fixed routine is the biggest motivator.

    1. Eat light healthy food with lot of veggies and boliled meats (if you are a non-vegetarian), less of oily or spicy food and no soft drinks. Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
      1. Spicy food diturbs our mental equilibrium.
      2. Oily food makes us sleepy and decreases our alertness.
      3. Soft drinks increase your thirst instead of quenching it, and makes you feel uneasy after some time.
      4. Water keeps us hydated and keeps the mind alert.

    1. Do everything in moderation. Eat in moderation, sleep in moderation, talk in moderation, meditate in moderazion, study in moderation and exercise in moderation.

  1. Do some brisk walking everyday for 10-15 minutes (at least 1km to 1.5 km) and/or some basic yoga asanas.

In Indian tradition this is knowns as “niyama”. We must do this everyday, regularly, day in and day out without fail without exception.

A daily routine and moderation in all practices is the first among many steps to become a perpetual motivation fountain. With things like sleeping, eating, wellness under control, you need not spend energy on these things.

You now have massive leverage on your time. You can now apply your mind exclusively to higher pursuits.

By turning the negative into positive, you are already a step closer to becoming a self-motivated individual.
